BlueLight analytics inc. is a world leader in the use of light activated materials in dentistry.  BlueLight has developed and distributes a novel platform of products and services that are central to the effective use of dental curing lights, which are used dozens of times every day in clinics around the world.

The placement of light activated dental materials commonly makes up at least 50% a dentist’s income. In the United States (US) in 2005, about 500,000 resin composite (tooth coloured) dental restorations were placed in patient’s mouths each day, with each one being polymerized (hardened) intra-orally using a curing light that produced blue light.  The total cost of these fillings was estimated to be more than US$30 billion that year.

The trouble is that numerous studies have indicated that resin composite dental restorations are only lasting an average of 5.7 years.  This compares to a life expectancy of three times that figure, which is equivalent to the life expectancy of silver amalgam fillings.  This high replacement rate is very closely linked to the inadequate curing of resin composites intra-orally.

BlueLight’s products and research quickly demonstrate that dentists are faced with four sets of variables that they currently cannot manage at the chair-side.  These variables include the fact that every brand and shade of resin composite requires a different specific dose of energy, and every dental curing light is different in terms of the amount and type of light it produces, how it performs in the mouth and how it performs in the hands of different operators.

Specifically, BlueLight makes and sells devices called MARC™, an acronym that stands for Managing Accurate Resin Curing.  The MARC™ Patient Simulator and MARC™ Resin Calibrator are unique energy measurement systems that simply and accurately measure the energy received when dentists use their curing light to harden resin composite fillings, or secure crowns and veneers.  BlueLight also offers a wide variety of high-value added services to dental manufacturers.  BlueLight’s customers currently are manufacturers and universities in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

The information generated by BlueLight and its unique devices provides dental researchers, manufacturers, educators and clinicians with scientifically accurate and clinically relevant tools, knowledge, skills and data to better manage the variables that determine the effective use of curing lights in clinical practice.
