About the Organization The Kramer lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology seeks to hire a research technician. The Kramer lab is a vibrant research environment that recently moved to Dalhousie after operating for 5 years at the University of Western Ontario. The lab uses Drosophila and cell culture models to investigate the mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders.
Job Summary The successful applicant will conduct experiments in the Kramer lab and perform general tasks that are vital to the day to day operation of the lab. The person will report directly to the principle investigator.
Key Responsibilities – Performing experiments in consultation with the principle investigator
– Preparing media (weekly)
– Maintaining Drosophila stocks (weekly)
– Ordering supplies
– Performing/overseeing preventative maintenance on lab equipment
– Training new personnel
– Writing manuscripts and grants
Qualifications The minimum qualification is a BSc in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, or a related discipline. Preferred candidate will have an MSc in a relevant discipline and some skills in molecular or computational biology.
